Documents Required for NEET UG Counselling 2026: The Complete List

NEET UG 2026 results are out, and 11.21 lakh candidates are now looking at the next step. But a rank on the scorecard does not secure a seat. It gets you an allotment letter, which then requires you to prove eligibility at document verification. One expired OBC-NCL certificate, one wrong-format EWS, one mismatched name between your Class 10 certificate and your Aadhaar, and the seat moves to the next candidate. There is no appeal at the verification desk. Here is the complete documents required for NEET UG counselling 2026, the traps that cause the most rejections, and what to carry on reporting day.

These ten documents are mandatory for every candidate, regardless of category, quota, or counselling round. Originals are checked and retained by the college for the full course duration. You do not get them back until graduation.

Document What It Proves Key Note
NEET UG 2026 Admit Card Proof you appeared for the exam Carry the original printout. Do not laminate it.
NEET UG 2026 Scorecard or Rank Letter Merit verification Download fresh from the NTA NEET portal before each round. Must match counselling system records exactly.
Class 10 Certificate or Marksheet Date of birth proof The only primary DOB document accepted. Any name mismatch here cascades to every other form.
Class 12 Marksheet and Passing Certificate PCB eligibility Both documents required. Must show Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English individually with qualifying marks.
Provisional Allotment Letter Confirms college and course Download from MCC counselling portal or your state counselling website after every round. An older letter is not valid.
Valid Government Photo ID Identity verification Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, or Driving Licence. Name and DOB must match Class 10 certificate and NEET application exactly.
8 to 12 Passport-Size Photographs Admission records and ID cards Must match the NEET application photo. A different photo causes rejection.
Medical Fitness Certificate Health verification From a registered MBBS doctor. Some colleges require their own prescribed format.
Transfer Certificate (TC) School leaving proof From the last institution attended. Still valid even with a gap year.
Migration Certificate Board transfer proof Mandatory when your Class 12 board differs from the college's state.

Category and Quota Certificates for NEET Counselling: Where Most Rejections Happen

Candidates claiming reservation must carry additional certificates. The wrong format, the wrong issuing authority, or an expired date can disqualify you from your reserved seat instantly.

OBC-NCL Certificate: Validity and Format Rules. For All India Quota counselling, you need the Central Government format. Your sub-caste must appear on the Central OBC list at ncbc.nic.in. A state-format OBC certificate is rejected outright. The candidate is treated as General. If their rank does not qualify under General, the seat is cancelled. The certificate must be issued on or after April 1, 2025. Family income below ₹8 lakh. Issuing authority: Tehsildar, SDM, or District Magistrate.

EWS Certificate: Expiry and Validity Rules. EWS certificates reset every March 31. For the 2026 cycle, anything issued before April 1, 2025, is expired. Family income must be below ₹8 lakh. Maharashtra applicants face an additional requirement: the state demands its own Annexure T format for state quota, not the central format. Bring a central EWS to a Maharashtra desk and it will be rejected.

PwD Certificate: Designated Medical Board Only. A certificate from a local hospital is not accepted. The MCC only accepts PwD certificates from its designated Disability Assessment Boards, generated online through the MCC system. No offline certificate is valid.

SC/ST certificates must be in the Central Government prescribed format and the caste name must match the central SC/ST list. Generally no expiry, but the format must follow the MCC information bulletin proforma.

Domicile Certificate: mandatory for 85% state quota seats. Processing takes 2 to 4 weeks. Not required for AIQ counselling.

Gap Year Affidavit: required if there is any gap after Class 12. Format: ₹10 or ₹20 stamp paper, notarised. Must state the period and reason clearly.

NRI/OCI Documents: sponsorship affidavit (notarised), sponsor's passport copy, embassy certificate, relationship proof, and OCI card where applicable. Each state publishes its own NRI document list in its counselling brochure.

Maharashtra Caste Validity Certificate and State-Specific Rules

Maharashtra runs two extra rules that cause disproportionate seat losses. First, it requires a Caste Validity Certificate (CVC) from the Divisional Caste Scrutiny Committee on top of the caste certificate. Processing takes up to three months. Without the CVC, the candidate is treated as Open category. Second, Maharashtra EWS must be Annexure T format, not central format. Start the CVC application now if you have not already.

Other major states add their own requirements. Karnataka needs an Income Certificate and a Rural Service Bond agreement. Uttar Pradesh requires UP Domicile and state-format caste certificates. Tamil Nadu adds a Community Certificate and a 5-year Rural Service Bond. Delhi introduced a 1-year service bond from 2025-26. Always download the latest bulletin from your state's official counselling portal.

NEET Counselling Document Verification Process and MCC Fees

Before document verification, you pay a registration fee through the MCC portal. The security deposit is refundable if you follow the rules.

Counselling Type UR/EWS SC/ST/OBC/PwD
AIQ or Central Universities ₹11,000 (₹1,000 fee + ₹10,000 deposit) ₹5,500 (₹500 fee + ₹5,000 deposit)
Deemed Universities ₹2,05,000 (₹5,000 fee + ₹2,00,000 deposit) ₹2,05,000 (same for all)

If applying for both AIQ and Deemed, pay only ₹2,05,000. Deposit refund timeline: 15 to 30 days after the counselling completion notice. Forfeiture triggers: not reporting after Round 2, exiting after Mop-Up, or missing Stray Vacancy reporting.

Reporting Day: What to Carry for Document Verification

The college reporting day is the final gate. Carry every original document plus two to three self-attested photocopy sets. The college retains originals for 5.5 years. Do not laminate original certificates, many verification desks reject laminated documents because they cannot stamp or watermark-check them. Save colour PDF scans on a pen drive and phone as backup.

Before leaving home, lay out your Class 10 certificate, Class 12 mark sheet, Aadhaar, and NEET admit card. Every spelling, initial, and date of birth must match. A single mismatched letter requires a notarised name affidavit prepared in advance. Signatures must be consistent across all documents, especially the anti-ragging affidavit (two notarised originals, format from UGC Anti-Ragging portal, one from the student and one from the parent).

What Happens If Documents Fail: Round-Wise Consequences

The consequences get stricter with each round. Round 1 allows free exit: if documents fail, withdraw and your deposit is safe. Round 2 is binding: miss reporting and the deposit is forfeited. Mop-Up withdrawal after allotment also forfeits the deposit. Stray Vacancy is on-spot verification with no second chance. A single missing document and the seat moves to the next candidate.

Category certificate rejection at any round means you are treated as General. If your rank does not qualify under General at that college, the seat is cancelled. False or forged documents: immediate seat cancellation, forfeiture of all fees paid, criminal prosecution, and permanent debarment from MCC counselling.

Disclaimer

All document requirements are based on the MCC Information Bulletin 2025, official state counselling brochures, and verified authority guidelines as of July 2026. Requirements, formats, and deadlines may be revised before or during the counselling cycle. Always cross-check the latest official bulletin on mcc.nic.in or your state's counselling portal before reporting. Document acceptance is at the sole discretion of the counselling authority and the admitting college.
